You've just been diagnosed
You've just been diagnosed. Now what?
You may be replaying the past: the missed deadlines, the friendships that felt confusing, the years you spent calling yourself lazy, too much, or not disciplined enough. A new diagnosis can change the meaning of those memories. It can also bring grief for the support you did not have sooner.
Therapy after a diagnosis can include symptom management, along with the shame and old narratives that may come with it. We can look at what you were carrying then and practice a more accurate way of understanding yourself now. You can learn how your brain works while staying connected to the whole person you have always been.
There is no required way to feel about a diagnosis, and no perfect first step. We can start wherever you are: with questions, anger, relief, sadness, or simply the wish to stop working so hard to appear fine.
